In the centre of the former military Van Haeften quarters in Apeldoorn (now a modern residential area) stands the Kruithuisje (former munition stock house), which functions as a platform for temporary art interventions since 2004. (Interventions refer to installations that include a scenario of use over time).

The project started with a written interview held among the inhabitants: personal interests, assets and obstacles, but also suggestions regarding the Kruithuisje were collected and analysed. The most frequent answers were: reading (as leisure time activity), nature (as beautiful thing) and meeting point (as possible role of the Kruithuisje).

Adding these responses one to another led to the idea of an outdoor Leeskamer (reading chamber). The blind wall on one side of the Kruithuisje was enriched with a green blackboard, in front of which a series of outdoor summer lectures were given. The Kruithuisje itself was given back its original function: stocking area, this time for the Leeskamer props.
